As with all my "Kiln Carved" designs, the image is actually "painted" with light captured by the glass extended into carved cavities These decorative Trays and Plates were created
from clear glass using the technique called "Kiln Carving" in which
the glass is laid over the handmade form in the kiln and slowly
fired to over 1400 Fahrenheit. As the glass heats up and softens,
the gravity forces it to "flow" into the form. Total firing time
is between 9 and 12 hours depending on the thickness of the glass
used. This process can be repeated with the same form only a few
times before the form disintegrates and a new one has to be carved
by hand. As a result each individual form has its own "character"
even when the same motive and style are used. These Trays
are intended for daily use as a Sushi, Cheese, Fruit or Dessert
trays. They could also be displayed as wall decorations or glass tiles. The front or the back surface can be "frosted" so by softening the details viewed through the glass image looks a bit "mysterious".
